Church Grounds & Maintenance Workamper

Location: Ellsworth, ME Position Type: Part-Time / Volunteer Time Commitment: 15-20 hours per week per site Duration: May 15, 2026 – October 15, 2026

About Our Ministry

Ellsworth Church of the Nazarene is a welcoming faith community located in the heart of Downeast Maine, just outside of beautiful Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park. We are dedicated to serving our community and maintaining a safe and beautiful place for worship and fellowship in order to “Explore Together the Life and Love of Jesus.” We are looking for a reliable, handy individual or couple to join our team as on-site hosts to help care for our property and grounds.

What We Offer

In exchange for your volunteer hours, we provide:

  • Full Hookup RV Site: Electric, Water, and Sewer connection.
  • Utilities Included: Electricity, water, and garbage service are covered by the church.
  • Wi-Fi Access: High-speed internet access at the site.
  • Community: An invitation to participate in all church events, ministry opportunities, and services.

Note: Washer/dryer facilities for Laundry are not available on-site, but there are multiple nearby Laundromats.

Responsibilities & Duties

The Workamper will primarily focus on the exterior appearance and mechanical function of the church property. Duties include:

1. Groundskeeping

  • Mowing and edging the lawn (riding mower provided).
  • Weeding flower beds and trimming hedges/bushes.
  • Blowing leaves and debris from sidewalks and parking lots.

2. General Maintenance

  • Performing minor facility repairs (changing light bulbs, fixing leaky faucets, painting touch-ups).
  • Monitoring the property for safety hazards.
  • Assisting with setup/teardown for special events (moving chairs/tables).
  • Overseeing outside contractors for major repairs (HVAC, roofing) if necessary.

3. Security & Presence

  • Providing a physical presence on the property to deter vandalism.
  • Locking/unlocking gates or doors for scheduled groups (occasional).

Requirements & Qualifications

  • RV Ownership: Must have a well-maintained, self-contained RV.
  • Experience: Previous experience in landscaping, handy-work, or facility maintenance is highly preferred.
  • Physical Ability: Must be able to lift 40+ lbs, operate machinery (mowers/trimmers), and work outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Background Check: All volunteers residing on church property must pass a criminal background check and sexual offender registry check.
  • Values: Must be respectful of the church environment and adhere to our code of conduct.

Schedule

  • Hours: Flexible, totaling 15 – 20 hours per week.
  • Core Days: We prefer the schedule to be consistent, but are flexible and happy to work around your travel/sightseeing schedule.
